Somalia’s parliamentary speaker visits embassy in Kenya, urges stronger services for citizens

NAIROBI, Kenya – Somalia’s Speaker of the House of the People, Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur (Jaamac), has visited the country’s embassy in Nairobi, where he met Ambassador Jibril Ibrahim Abdulle and other diplomatic staff.

The visit focused on the embassy’s diplomatic responsibilities, its role in protecting Somali citizens abroad and efforts to strengthen relations between Somalia and Kenya.

During the meeting, Nur highlighted the importance of Somali diplomatic missions in representing the country internationally and safeguarding the interests of its citizens. He also praised the embassy’s diplomatic engagement and the services it provides to the Somali community in Kenya.

The Speaker urged embassy officials to maintain their efforts to improve consular services and strengthen engagement with Somali nationals living in the country.

He said diplomatic missions have an important responsibility to uphold Somalia’s national interests while ensuring that citizens receive appropriate assistance and support while abroad.

Kenya is home to a significant Somali population, particularly in Nairobi’s Eastleigh district, which has developed into an important commercial and residential centre for the Somali community.

The relationship between Somalia and Kenya extends beyond diplomatic engagement, encompassing trade, security cooperation, migration and cross-border economic activity.

Nur concluded the visit by thanking Ambassador Abdulle and embassy staff for their work, encouraging them to continue serving the Somali community and protecting the country’s national reputation.

The visit comes as Somalia continues to strengthen its diplomatic and institutional engagement with Kenya and other East African Community member states.
